The Prophet of Allah ﷺ said, "Maintain the prayers." Affan said, "the prayer and the middle prayer," and he named it for us, saying, "It is the afternoon prayer."
حدثنا بهز وعفان قالا حدثنا أبان حدثنا قتادة عن الحسن
أن نبي الله ﷺ قال حافظوا على الصلوات قال عفان الصلاة والصلاة الوسطى وسماها لنا إنما هي صلاة العصر
