I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I did not come to you until I had sworn oaths more numerous than these," and he struck one of his hands against the other, "that I would never come to you nor follow your religion. I have come as a man who understands nothing except what Allah and His Messenger teach me, and I ask you by the face of Allah, with what has our Lord sent you to us?"He said, "With Islam."I asked, "Messenger of Allah, what are the signs of Islam?"He said, "That you say, 'I have submitted my face to Allah,' and renounce all else, establish the prayer, and pay the zakah. Every Muslim is sacred to another Muslim. They are two brothers who support each other. Allah will not accept any deed from one who associates partners with Him after having accepted Islam, unless he leaves the polytheists and joins the Muslims. Why do I find myself holding you back by your waistbands from the Fire? Indeed, my Lord will summon me and ask me, 'Did you convey the message to My servants?' and I shall say, 'My Lord, I have conveyed it to them.' So let those of you present convey it to those who are absent. Then you will be summoned, your mouths sealed shut with muzzles, and the first part of you to speak..."The narrator at Wasit said, "...will be questioned."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ struck his thigh with his hand.I said, "Messenger of Allah, is this our religion?"He said, "This is your religion, and wherever you do good, it will suffice you."

حدثنا يحيى بن سعيد

عن بهز قال أخبرني أبي عن جدي قال

أتيت رسول الله ﷺ فقلت يا رسول الله والله ما أتيتك حتى حلفت أكثر من عدد أولاء وضرب إحدى يديه على الأخرى أن لا آتيك ولا آتي دينك وإني قد جئت امرأ لا أعقل شيئا إلا ما علمني الله عز وجل ورسوله وإني أسألك بوجه الله بم بعثك ربنا إلينا قال بالإسلام قال قلت يا رسول الله وما آية الإسلام قال أن تقول أسلمت وجهي لله وتخليت وتقيم الصلاة وتؤتي الزكاة وكل مسلم على مسلم محرم أخوان نصيران لا يقبل الله عز وجل من مشرك يشرك بعد ما أسلم عملا أو يفارق المشركين إلى المسلمين ما لي أمسك بحجزكم عن النار ألا إن ربي داعي وإنه سائلي هل بلغت عبادي وأنا قائل له رب قد بلغتهم ألا فليبلغ الشاهد منكم الغائب ثم إنكم مدعوون ومفدمة أفواهكم بالفدام وإن أول ما يبين وقال بواسط يترجم قال وقال رسول الله ﷺ بيده على فخذه قال قلت يا رسول الله هذا ديننا قال هذا دينكم وأينما تحسن يكفك
