Abdullah bin Umar reported,

A man from among the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered the mosque on Friday while Umar bin Khattab was delivering the sermon to the people.Umar asked, "What hour is this?"He replied, "Commander of the Believers, I returned from the market and heard the call to prayer, so I did no more than perform ablution."Umar said, "Ablution as well? You know that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to command the full bath."

قال أبو عبد الرحمن حدثنا أحمد بن حنبل قرأت على عبد الرحمن بن مهدي: مالك عن ابن شهاب عن سالم بن عبد الله

عن ابن عمر رضي الله عنه قال

دخل رجل من أصحاب رسول الله ﷺ المسجد يوم الجمعة وعمر بن الخطاب رضي الله عنه يخطب الناس فقال عمر أية ساعة هذه فقال يا أمير المؤمنين انقلبت من السوق فسمعت النداء فما زدت على أن توضأت فقال عمر رضي الله عنه والوضوء أيضا وقد علمت أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يأمر بالغسل
