Imran bin Husayn reported,

We were on a journey with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and traveled through the night until, in the last part of it, we fell into that kind of sleep which is sweeter to a traveler than any other.Nothing woke us but the heat of the sun. The first to wake was so-and-so, then so-and-so. Abu Raja used to name them, but Awf forgot their names. Then Umar bin Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, was the fourth. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, when he slept, we would not wake him until he woke on his own, for we did not know what might come to him in his sleep. When Umar woke and saw what had befallen the people, being a stout-hearted, loud-voiced man, he raised his voice in takbir and kept calling out the takbir loudly until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up at his voice. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ awoke, the people complained to him of what had befallen them. He said, "There is no harm in it. Set out."So they set out. He traveled a short distance, then dismounted and called for water for ablution. He performed ablution, the call to prayer was made, and he led the people in prayer. When he finished his prayer, he noticed a man standing apart who had not prayed with the others. He asked, "What kept you, so-and-so, from praying with the people?"The man replied, "Messenger of Allah, I am in a state of major ritual impurity and there is no water."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You may use clean earth, that will suffice you."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ continued on, and the people complained to him of thirst. He dismounted and called for so-and-so, whom Abu Raja used to name but Awf forgot, and he called for Ali, may Allah be pleased with him. He said, "Go and find water for us."So they set off and came upon a woman seated between two waterskins, or two large leather bags of water, on her camel. They asked her, "Where is the water?"She replied, "I was at the water yesterday at this hour, and our menfolk are behind."They said to her, "Then come along."She asked, "Where to?"They said, "To the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."She said, "The one they call the Sabian?"They said, "He is the one you mean. So come along."They brought her to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him what had happened. They had her dismount from her camel, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for a vessel and poured into it from the mouths of the two waterskins, or two leather bags. Then he tied up their mouths and loosened the lower openings, and it was announced among the people, "Drink and water yourselves."So whoever wished drank, and whoever wished watered his animals. The last thing was that he gave the man who had been in a state of major ritual impurity a vessel of water and said, "Go and pour it over yourself."She stood watching what was being done with her water. By Allah, when he stopped drawing from it, it seemed to us that it was fuller than when he had first begun. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Gather something for her."So they gathered for her dates, flour, and parched grain, until they had collected a good amount of food. They placed it in a cloth, helped her onto her camel, and set the cloth before her.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to her, "You know, by Allah, we have not taken anything from your water. It is Allah عز وجل who has given us drink."She returned to her family, having been delayed from them. They asked her, "What kept you, so-and-so?"She said, "A wonder. Two men met me and took me to this man they call the Sabian, and he did such-and-such with my water," referring to what had happened. "By Allah, he is either the greatest sorcerer between this and this," and she pointed with her middle and index fingers raised toward the sky, meaning heaven and earth, "or he is truly the Messenger of Allah."After that, the Muslims used to raid the polytheists around her settlement but would never touch the encampment in which she lived. One day she said to her people, "I do not think these people leave you alone except deliberately. Will you not enter Islam?"They obeyed her and entered Islam.
