Imran bin Husayn reported,

Adba was a camel belonging to a man from the tribe of Banu Aqeel, and she was among the foremost racing camels of the pilgrims. The man was taken captive, and Adba was seized along with him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by him while he was bound in fetters, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was riding a donkey covered with a velvet cloak. The man called out, "Muhammad, you take me captive and you seize the foremost of the pilgrims' camels?"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "We are taking you for the offense of your allies, Thakeef." Thakeef had previously taken captive two of the Prophet's ﷺ companions.The man also said, among other things, "I am a Muslim."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Had you said that while you still had control over your own affairs, you would have prospered with complete success."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then continued on his way, and the man called out, "Muhammad, I am hungry, so feed me, and I am thirsty, so give me drink."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is your need," and he was later ransomed in exchange for the two captive men. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ kept Adba for his own mount.Later, the polytheists raided the grazing herd of Madinah and drove it off, and Adba was among the animals taken. They also captured a Muslim woman. Whenever they halted, they would let their camels rest in the open spaces around their dwellings.One night, the woman got up after the people had gone to sleep. Every time she approached a camel, it groaned, until she came to Adba. She then came upon a docile, well-trained she-camel, mounted her, and headed toward Madinah. She vowed that if Allah delivered her safely upon this camel, she would slaughter it.When she reached Madinah, the camel was recognized, and people said, "This is the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." The Prophet ﷺ was informed of her vow, or she came to him herself and told him.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What a poor reward you have given her! Allah delivered her safely upon this camel, and now you would slaughter her?" Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no fulfilling a vow that involves disobedience to Allah, nor a vow concerning what the son of Adam does not possess."Wahib, meaning Ibn Khalid, said that Thakeef were allies of Banu Aqeel.Hammad bin Salama added in his version, "Adba was a tame camel that was not kept away from any watering trough or pasture."Affan said that "mujarrasa" means well-trained.

عن عمران بن حصين قال

كانت العضباء لرجل من بني عقيل وكانت من سوابق الحاج فأسر الرجل وأخذت العضباء معه قال فمر به رسول الله ﷺ وهو في وثاق ورسول الله ﷺ على حمار عليه قطيفة فقال يا محمد تأخذوني وتأخذون سابقة الحاج قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ نأخذك بجريرة حلفائك ثقيف قال وقد كانت ثقيف قد أسروا رجلين من أصحاب النبي ﷺ وقال فيما قال وإني مسلم قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ لو قلتها وأنت تملك أمرك أفلحت كل الفلاح قال ومضى رسول الله ﷺ قال فقال يا محمد إني جائع فأطعمني وإني ظمآن فاسقني قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ هذه حاجتك ثم فدي بالرجلين وحبس رسول الله ﷺ العضباء لرحله قال ثم إن المشركين أغاروا على سرح المدينة فذهبوا بها وكانت العضباء فيه قال وأسروا امرأة من المسلمين قال فكانوا إذا نزلوا أراحوا إبلهم بأفنيتهم قال فقامت المرأة ذات ليلة بعدما نوموا فجعلت كلما أتت على بعير رغا حتى أتت على العضباء فأتت على ناقة ذلول مجرسة فركبتها ثم وجهتها قبل المدينة قال ونذرت إن الله عز وجل أنجاها عليها لتنحرنها فلما قدمت المدينة عرفت الناقة فقيل ناقة رسول الله ﷺ قال فأخبر النبي ﷺ بنذرها أو أتته فأخبرته قال فقال رسول الله ﷺ بئسما جزتها أو بئسما جزيتيها إن الله تبارك وتعالى أنجاها عليها لتنحرنها قال ثم قال رسول الله ﷺ لا وفاء لنذر في معصية الله ولا فيما لا يملك ابن آدم و قال وهيب يعني ابن خالد وكانت ثقيف حلفاء لبني عقيل وزاد حماد بن سلمة فيه وكانت العضباء داجنا لا تمنع من حوض ولا نبت قال عفان مجرسة معودة
