The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to delay the night prayer until a third of the night had passed. He disliked sleeping before it and conversing after it. In the dawn prayer, he would recite between sixty and a hundred verses, and he would finish the prayer at a time when we could just make out one another's faces.
