Two men brought a dispute before the Prophet ﷺ concerning a piece of land. One of them was from the people of Hadramawt. The Prophet ﷺ ruled that one of them should take an oath. The other man cried out, "If he does, he will take my land!"The Prophet ﷺ said, "If he seizes it by a false oath, he will be among those whom Allah will not look at on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He purify him, and he will have a painful punishment."The other man then withdrew his claim out of fear and returned the land.

Its chain of transmission is sahih. Jafar bin Barqan is trustworthy, and his hadith appears in the two Sahihs. Haythami said in 4/179, "The men of Ahmad's narration are reliable." Hakim graded it sahih in 4/296, and Dhahabi agreed with him. It also appears in Bayhaqi 6/98 and in Baghawi's Sharh al-Sunnah 8/229, and with a similar wording in Muslim 3/1230, number 1611.
