Abu Musa Ashari reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent me to the land of my people. When the time for Hajj came, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed Hajj and so did I. I came to him while he was staying at al-Abtah.He asked me, "What did you enter ihram for, Abdullah bin Qays?"I replied, "I said, 'Labbayk for a Hajj like the Hajj of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.'"He said, "You have done well." Then he asked, "Did you bring a sacrificial animal with you?"I said, "I did not."He said to me, "Go and perform tawaf around the House and walk between Safa and Marwa, then exit ihram."So I went and did as he commanded me. I came to a woman from my people who washed my head with khitmi and combed it out. Then I entered ihram for Hajj on the Day of Tarwiyah.I continued giving people the same ruling that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had given me, until he passed away, then through the time of Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, and then through the time of Umar, may Allah be pleased with him.While I was standing near the Black Stone, or the Maqam, giving people the ruling that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had instructed me to give, a man came up to me and whispered, "Do not be hasty with your ruling, for the Commander of the Believers has introduced something new regarding the rites."So I said, "People, whoever we have given a ruling about the rites should hold off, for the Commander of the Believers is on his way, so follow him."When Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, arrived, I said, "Commander of the Believers, have you introduced something new regarding the rites?"He answered, "Yes. We follow the Book of Allah , for it commands completion, and we follow the Sunnah of our Prophet ﷺ, for he did not exit ihram until the sacrificial animal was slaughtered."

حدثنا عبد الرزاق أخبرنا الثوري عن قيس بن مسلم عن طارق بن شهاب

عن أبي موسى الأشعري قال

بعثني رسول الله ﷺ إلى أرض قومي فلما حضر الحج حج رسول الله ﷺ وحججت فقدمت عليه وهو نازل بالأبطح فقال لي بم أهللت يا عبد الله بن قيس قال قلت لبيك بحج كحج رسول الله ﷺ قال أحسنت ثم قال هل سقت هديا فقلت ما فعلت فقال لي اذهب فطف بالبيت وبين الصفا والمروة ثم احلل فانطلقت ففعلت ما أمرني وأتيت امرأة من قومي فغسلت رأسي بالخطمي وفلته ثم أهللت بالحج يوم التروية فما زلت أفتي الناس بالذي أمرني رسول الله ﷺ حتى توفي ثم زمن أبي بكر رضي الله تعالى عنه ثم زمن عمر رضي الله تعالى عنه فبينا أنا قائم عند الحجر الأسود أو المقام أفت الناس بالذي أمرني به رسول الله ﷺ إذ أتاني رجل فسارني فقال لا تعجل بفتياك فإن أمير المؤمنين قد أحدث في المناسك شيئا فقلت أيها الناس من كنا أفتيناه في المناسك شيئا فليتئد فإن أمير المؤمنين قادم فبه فأتموا قال فقدم عمر رضي الله تعالى عنه فقلت يا أمير المؤمنين هل أحدثت في المناسك شيئا قال نعم أن نأخذ بكتاب الله عز وجل فإنه يأمر بالتمام وأن نأخذ بسنة نبينا ﷺ فإنه لم يحلل حتى نحر الهدي
