A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "Messenger of Allah, there is a young man here on the verge of death. He is being told to say, 'There is no god but Allah,' but he cannot say it."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "Did he not say it during his lifetime?"The man replied, "Yes, he did."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then what prevents him from saying it at the time of his death?"He then mentioned the hadith in its full length.My father did not narrate these two hadiths to us. He struck them out of his book because he was not satisfied with the hadith of Faaid bin Abdul-Rahman, whom he considered abandoned in hadith.
قال أبو عبد الرحمن وكان في كتاب أبي حدثنا يزيد بن هارون أخبرنا فائد بن عبد الرحمن قال سمعت
جاء رجل إلى رسول الله ﷺ فقال يا رسول الله إن هاهنا غلاما قد احتضر يقال له قل لا إله إلا الله فلا يستطيع أن يقولها فقال أليس كان يقول في حياته قال بلى قال فما منعه منها عند موته فذكر الحديث بطوله فلم يحدثنا أبي بهذين الحديثين ضرب عليهما من كتابه لأنه لم يرض حديث فائد بن عبد الرحمن وكان عنده متروك الحديث
Its isnad is daif, and it is a wijadah. Abdullah stated that his father struck out the hadith of Faid bin Abdul-Rahman. He is matruk, and I did not find anyone who deemed him trustworthy.
