Numan bin Bashir reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said from upon these planks, or from upon this pulpit, "Whoever does not give thanks for little will not give thanks for much, and whoever does not thank people has not thanked Allah . Speaking of Allah's blessings is gratitude, and neglecting to mention them is ingratitude. Unity is mercy, and division is torment."Then Abu Umama Bahili said, "Hold fast to the greatest body of Muslims."A man asked, "What is the greatest body?"So Abu Umama called out this verse from Surah an-Nur, "But if you turn away, then upon him is only that with which he has been charged, and upon you is that with which you have been charged" [Nur 24:54].

قال عبد الله حدثني يحيى بن عبد ربه مولى بني هاشم حدثنا أبو وكيع عن أبي عبد الرحمن عن الشعبي

عن النعمان بن بشير قال

قال رسول الله ﷺ على هذه الأعواد أو على هذا المنبر من لم يشكر القليل لم يشكر الكثير ومن لم يشكر الناس لم يشكر الله عز وجل والتحدث بنعمة الله شكر وتركها كفر والجماعة رحمة والفرقة عذاب قال فقال أبو أمامة الباهلي عليكم بالسواد الأعظم قال فقال رجل ما السواد الأعظم فنادى أبو أمامة هذه الآية التي في سورة النور {فإن تولوا فإنما عليه ما حمل وعليكم ما حملتم}
