Its isnad is sahih. Abu Mabad is the freedman of Ibn Abbas, and in H it says, "from Abu Saeed," which is an error. We corrected it from K and from the sources of the hadith. The hadith was narrated by Muslim, 1:162-163, and Abu Dawud, 1:383, and it was also narrated by Bukhari as Munziri stated.As for his statement, "Amr said, I said to him, you told me..." and so on, in one of Muslim's two narrations from Amr bin Dinar, he said, "Abu Mabad informed me of this," then he later denied it. In the other narration, he said, "Amr said, so I mentioned that to Abu Mabad and he denied it, and said, I did not tell you this." Amr said, "But he had informed me of it before that." So Abu Mabad forgot that he had told Amr bin Dinar, and despite that Amr bin Dinar insisted on what he had told him.Nawawi said, 8:84, "In Muslim's use of this hadith as evidence there is proof of his view that a hadith narrated in this manner is sahih, even when the one who transmitted it originally denies it, provided that a trustworthy person narrates it from him. This is the position of the majority of scholars among the hadith specialists, jurists, and theorists. They said, it may be used as evidence when the shaykh's denial of it is due to his doubt about it, or his forgetfulness, or his saying, I do not recall it, or I do not remember having told you this, or similar statements."See Tadrib Rawi, 123.
