Jibreel asked the Prophet ﷺ, "What is faith?"He replied, "That you believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day, and that you believe in divine decree, both its good and its evil."Jibreel
said to him, "You have spoken truly."The narrator said, "We were amazed at him, questioning the Prophet ﷺ and then confirming his answers."The Prophet ﷺ then said, "That was Jibreel. He came to teach you the essentials of your religion."
Its isnad is sahih. This is an abridgment of hadith 184, but here he attributed it to the hadith of Ibn Umar, which may be an oversight of the copyists, for we indicated there that Kahmas's narration is found in Muslim, where it is from the hadith of Ibn Umar, from his father. In manuscript ح it reads Yahya bin Mamar, which is an error.
