I went on the expedition of Tabuk with the Prophet ﷺ. When he set out, he travelled by night, and I rode close to him. Drowsiness overcame me, and I kept waking up to find that my mount had drawn near to his mount. Its closeness alarmed me, fearing that I might strike his foot in the stirrup, so I would pull my mount back, until at midnight my eyes overpowered me, and my mount bumped into his mount while the Prophet's ﷺ foot was in the stirrup. It struck his foot, and I did not wake until I heard him say, "Ouch!"I raised my head and said, "Ask forgiveness for me, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Ask."Then he began questioning me about those of Banu Ghifar who had stayed behind, and I informed him. Then he asked me, "What did those tall, red-skinned, curly-haired men do?" Or he said "short" - Abdul-Razzaq is uncertain - "those who have camels at Shaziyat Sharkh?"I tried to recall them among Banu Ghifar but could not bring them to mind, until I remembered a group from Aslam, and I said, "Messenger of Allah, what prevented any of those who stayed behind from carrying upon one of his camels an active man in the path of Allah? Pray that none from among the Muhajirun of Quraysh, the Ansar, Aslam, or Ghifar may stay behind."
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن الزهري أخبرني ابن أخي أبي رهم أنه سمع
غزوت مع النبي ﷺ غزوة تبوك فلما فصل سرى ليلة فسرت قريبا منه وألقي علي النعاس فطفقت أستيقظ وقد دنت راحلتي من راحلته فيفزعني دنوها خشية أن أصيب رجله في الغرز فأؤخر راحلتي حتى غلبتني عيني في نصف الليل فركبت راحلتي راحلته ورجل النبي ﷺ في الغرز فأصابت رجله فلم أستيقظ إلا بقوله حس فرفعت رأسي فقلت استغفر لي يا رسول الله فقال سل فقال فطفق يسألني عمن تخلف من بني غفار فأخبره فإذا هو يسألني ما فعل النفر الحمر الطوال القطاط أو قال القصار عبد الرزاق يشك الذين لهم نعم بشظية شرخ قال فذكرتهم في بني غفار فلم أذكرهم حتى ذكرت رهطا من أسلم فقلت يا رسول الله ما يمنع أحد أولئك حين تخلف أن يحمل على بعير من إبله امرأ نشيطا في سبيل الله فادعوا هل أن يتخلف عن المهاجرين من قريش والأنصار وأسلم وغفار
