Ali was narrating hadiths from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ from the pulpit. Abu Musa said, "This companion of yours is either a careful preserver of hadith or doomed. The last thing the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entrusted to us was when he said, 'Hold fast to the Book of Allah. You will return to a people who love hadith reported from me. Whoever attributes to me something I did not say, let him take his seat in the Fire. And whoever has preserved something from me, let him narrate it.'"
حدثنا قتيبة بن سعيد وكتب به إلي قتيبة حدثنا ليث بن سعد عن عمرو بن الحارث عن يحيى بن ميمون الحضرمي أن أبا موسى الغافقي سمع
يحدث على المنبر عن رسول الله ﷺ أحاديث فقال أبو موسى إن صاحبكم هذا لحافظ أو هالك إن رسول الله ﷺ كان آخر ما عهد إلينا أن قال عليكم بكتاب الله وسترجعون إلى قوم يحبون الحديث عني فمن قال علي ما لم أقل فليتبوأ مقعده من النار ومن حفظ عني شيئا فليحدثه
