I saw Ammar on the day of Siffin, an elderly man, dark-skinned and tall, holding a spear in his hand while his hand trembled. He said, "By the One in whose hand my soul rests, I fought under this banner alongside the Messenger of Allah ﷺ three times, and this is the fourth. By the One in whose hand my soul rests, even if they were to strike us until they drove us back to the mountain peaks of Hajar, I would still know that those of us seeking what is right are upon the truth and that they are upon misguidance."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن عمرو بن مرة قال سمعت
رأيت عمارا يوم صفين شيخا كبيرا آدم طوالا آخذا الحربة بيده ويده ترعد فقال والذي نفسي بيده لقد قاتلت بهذه الراية مع رسول الله ﷺ ثلاث مرات وهذه الرابعة والذي نفسي بيده لو ضربونا حتى يبلغوا بنا شعفات هجر لعرفت أن مصلحينا على الحق وأنهم على الضلالة
