The sun was eclipsed, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up along with his companions. He recited a long surah, then bowed, then raised his head and recited again, then bowed, then performed two prostrations. Then he stood up and recited, bowed, and performed two prostrations. So there were four bowings and four prostrations within two units of prayer.
حدثنا إسحاق يعني ابن يوسف عن شريك عن خصيف عن مقسم
كسفت الشمس فقام رسول الله ﷺ وأصحابه فقرأ سورة طويلة ثم ركع ثم رفع رأسه فقرأ ثم ركع وسجد سجدتين ثم قام فقرأ وركع ثم سجد سجدتين أربع ركعات وأربع سجدات في ركعتين
Its isnad is sahih, and it is in meaning a shortened version of 2711. Tirmidhi 2:447, in our commentary, referred to it. It has been narrated from Ibn Abbas from the Prophet ﷺ that he prayed four rakahs with four prostrations during an eclipse. See the references indicated there.
