We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a journey when we came upon a well with little water in it. Six of us, I being the seventh, or seven of us, I being the eighth, descended into it. The water-drawer said, "A bucket was lowered down to us while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was at the edge of the well. I put in it half of it, or about a third, and I raised the bucket up to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ."Bara said, "I tilted my own vessel hoping to find something I could put down my throat, but I found nothing." Then he dipped his hand into it and said what Allah willed him to say, and the bucket was returned to us with what was in it. Indeed, the last of us to come out had to be pulled out with a garment for fear of drowning, then the water gushed forth.Affan once said, "out of fear of drowning."
حدثنا عفان حدثنا سليمان بن المغيرة حدثنا حميد بن هلال حدثنا يونس
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في سفر فأتينا على ركي ذمة فنزل فيها ستة أنا سابعهم أو سبعة أنا ثامنهم قال ماحة فأدليت إلينا دلو ورسول الله ﷺ على شفة الركي فجعلت فيها نصفها أو قراب ثلثها فرفعت الدلو إلى رسول الله ﷺ قال البراء وكدت بإنائي هل أجد شيئا أجعله في حلقي فما وجدت فغمس يده فيها وقال ما شاء الله أن يقول وأعيدت إلينا الدلو بما فيها ولقد أخرج آخرنا بثوب مخافة الغرق ثم ساحت وقال عفان مرة رهبة الغرق
