On the day of Uhud, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ placed Abdullah bin Jubayr in command of the archers, who numbered fifty men. He stationed them in a particular position and said, "If you see us being snatched up by birds, do not leave your place until I send for you. And if you see us defeating the enemy and trampling them, do not leave your place until I send for you."The Muslims defeated them. By Allah, I saw the women running up the mountain with their lower legs and anklets exposed, lifting their garments. The companions of Abdullah bin Jubayr started saying, "The spoils, my people, the spoils! Your companions have prevailed, what are you waiting for?"Abdullah bin Jubayr said, "Have you forgotten what the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told you?"They replied, "By Allah, we will go to the people and get our share of the spoils."But when they came to them, the tide turned against the Muslims and they came back in defeat. That was when the Messenger called them from behind, and no one remained with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ except twelve men. The enemy killed seventy of us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions had killed one hundred and forty of the polytheists at Badr, seventy captives and seventy slain.Abu Sufyan called out, "Is Muhammad among the people? Is Muhammad among the people? Is Muhammad among the people?" three times. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade them from answering him.Then he said, "Is the son of Abu Quhafa among the people? Is the son of Abu Quhafa among the people? Is the son of al-Khattab among the people? Is the son of al-Khattab among the people?"Then he turned to his companions and said, "As for these men, they have been killed, you have been spared their trouble."Umar could not contain himself and said, "You lie, by Allah, enemy of Allah! Those you have named are all alive, and what remains will grieve you."Abu Sufyan said, "A day for the day of Badr, and war is by turns. You will find mutilation among the slain that I did not order, but it does not displease me."Then he began to chant, "Exalted be Hubal! Exalted be Hubal!"The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Will you not answer him?"They asked, "Messenger of Allah, what shall we say?"He said, "Say, Allah is higher and greater."Abu Sufyan said, "We have al-Uzza, and you have no Uzza."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Will you not answer him?"They asked, "Messenger of Allah, what shall we say?"He said, "Say, Allah is our Protector, and you have no protector."
حدثنا حسن بن موسى حدثنا زهير حدثنا أبو إسحاق أن
جعل رسول الله ﷺ على الرماة يوم أحد وكانوا خمسين رجلا عبد الله بن جبير قال ووضعهم موضعا وقال إن رأيتمونا تخطفنا الطير فلا تبرحوا حتى أرسل إليكم وإن رأيتمونا ظهرنا على العدو وأوطأناهم فلا تبرحوا حتى أرسل إليكم قال فهزموهم قال فأنا والله رأيت النساء يشتددن على الجبل وقد بدت أسوقهن وخلاخلهن رافعات ثيابهن فقال أصحاب عبد الله بن جبير الغنيمة أي قوم الغنيمة ظهر أصحابكم فما تنظرون قال عبد الله بن جبير أنسيتم ما قال لكم رسول الله ﷺ قالوا إنا والله لنأتين الناس فلنصيبن من الغنيمة فلما أتوهم صرفت وجوههم فأقبلوا منهزمين فذلك الذي يدعوهم الرسول في أخراهم فلم يبق مع رسول الله ﷺ غير اثني عشر رجلا فأصابوا منا سبعين رجلا وكان رسول الله ﷺ وأصحابه أصاب من المشركين يوم بدر أربعين ومائة سبعين أسيرا وسبعين قتيلا فقال أبو سفيان أفي القوم محمد أفي القوم محمد أفي القوم محمد ثلاثا فنهاهم رسول الله ﷺ أن يجيبوه ثم قال أفي القوم ابن أبي قحافة أفي القوم ابن أبي قحافة أفي القوم ابن الخطاب أفي القوم ابن الخطاب ثم أقبل على أصحابه فقال أما هؤلاء فقد قتلوا وقد كفيتموهم فما ملك عمر نفسه أن قال كذبت والله يا عدو الله إن الذين عددت لأحياء كلهم وقد بقي لك ما يسوءك فقال يوم بيوم بدر والحرب سجال إنكم ستجدون في القوم مثلة لم آمر بها ولم تسؤني ثم أخذ يرتجز اعل هبل اعل هبل فقال رسول الله ﷺ ألا تجيبونه قالوا يا رسول الله وما نقول قال قولوا الله أعلى وأجل قال إن العزى لنا ولا عزى لكم فقال رسول الله ﷺ ألا تجيبونه قالوا يا رسول الله وما نقول قال قولوا الله مولانا ولا مولى لكم
