Bara bin Azib reported,

Bara bin Azib reported from the Prophet ﷺ, "We were traveling with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when we stopped at Ghadir Khumm. The call went out among us that the prayer was gathering, and a spot was swept clean for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ beneath two trees. He prayed Dhuhr, then took Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, by the hand and said, 'Do you not know that I have a greater claim on the believers than they have on themselves?'They replied, "Yes, indeed."He asked, "Do you not know that I have a greater claim on every believer than he has on himself?"They replied, "Yes, indeed."The narrator said, "Then he took Ali by the hand and said, 'Whoever has me as his master, Ali is his master. Allah, be a friend to whoever befriends him and an enemy to whoever opposes him.'"He said, Umar met Ali afterward and said to him, "Congratulations, son of Abu Talib. You have become, morning and evening, the master of every believing man and every believing woman."Abu Abdul-Rahman said, Hudba bin Khalid narrated to us, Hammad bin Salama narrated to us, from Ali bin Zayd, from Adi bin Thabit, from Bara bin Azib, from the Prophet ﷺ.
