The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would line up Abdullah, Ubaydullah, and many of the sons of Abbas, then say, "Whoever reaches me first will have such and such."So they would race toward him and fall upon his back and chest, and he would kiss them and hold them close.

Its isnad is daif because it is a mursal report. Abdullah bin Harith bin Nawfal was a taabi who was born during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah, as we noted at 783, but his report from him is mursal.The hadith appears in Majma al-Zawaid 9:285, where it says, "Ahmad narrated it and its isnad is hasan!" He forgot to mention its defect. Hafiz mentioned it in Tahdhib 8:421 and attributed it to Baghawi from Dawud bin Amr from Jareer, then said, "It is mursal with a good isnad, and Ahmad bin Hanbal also narrated it in his Musnad from Jareer in similar fashion." Hafiz also referred to it in Isabah 4:198 and 5:317–318. Ibn Athir narrated it in Usd Ghabah 3:340 from the Musnad.Kathir is Ibn Abbas as well, as is evident. In H it reads, "and many of Banu Abbas," the copyist apparently mistook Kathiran as an unknown quantity and added the letter "min." We have established the reading found in M, Tahdhib, and Usd Ghabah, while in Isabah it reads "and many of the sons of Abbas," which removes the ambiguity.
