I was sitting with Abdullah and Abu Musa when Abu Musa said, "Abu Abdul-Rahman, if a man becomes ritually impure and cannot find water, should he pray?"Abdullah replied, "No."Abu Musa said, "Have you not heard what Ammar said to Umar, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent you and me on an errand. I became ritually impure and rolled in the dust. We then came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him what had happened, and he said, "It would have been enough for you to do this," and he wiped his face and his hands one time'?"Abdullah said, "But I did not see Umar satisfied with that."Abu Musa asked, "Then what do you make of this verse, 'and you do not find water, then perform tayammum with clean earth' [Maidah 5:6]?"Abdullah replied, "If we granted them this concession, then whenever one of them found cold water he would still wipe himself with the dust."Amash said, I asked Shaqiq, "So Abdullah only disliked it for this reason?"
