I was sitting with Muhammad bin Hatib when he said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said, "I have seen a land with date palms, so go out to it." So Hatib and Jafar set out by sea toward the Negus, and I was born on that ship.

Its chain of transmission is sahih, its narrators are well-known and trustworthy, having already been mentioned. Abu Ishaq is Subayi, and Abu Malik Ashjai is Saad bin Tariq. The hadith was reported by Bukhari as part of the long hadith about the migration, 7/230, number 3905 Fath, in the chapter on the virtues of the Ansar, the migration of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions to Madinah, and by Tabarani in Al-Kabir 19/241. Haythami attributed it to him, 8/27, and said, "Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih."
