Adi bin Hatim reported,

I said, "Messenger of Allah, my father used to maintain ties of kinship and do such and such."He said, "Your father sought something and attained it," meaning his renown.I said, "I ask you about food that I leave only out of scruple."He replied, "Do not leave anything in which you would be imitating a Christian woman."I said, "I send my dog and it catches game, but I have nothing with which to slaughter it, so I slaughter it with a sharp stone or a stick."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Make the blood flow with whatever you wish, and mention the name of Allah ."

حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة عن سماك بن حرب قال سمعت مري بن قطري قال سمعت

عدى بن حاتم قال

قلت يا رسول الله إن أبي كان يصل الرحم ويفعل كذا وكذا قال إن أباك أراد أمرا فأدركه يعني الذكر قال قلت إني أسألك عن طعام لا أدعه إلا تحرجا قال لا تدع شيئا ضارعت فيه نصرانية قلت أرسل كلبي فيأخذ الصيد وليس معي ما أذكيه به فأذبحه بالمروة والعصا فقال رسول الله ﷺ أمر الدم بما شئت واذكر اسم الله عز وجل
