I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he taught me Islam and described the prayer for me, showing me how to perform each prayer at its proper time.Then he said to me, "How will you be, Ibn Hatim, when you ride out from the palaces of Yemen fearing none but Allah, until you alight at the palaces of Hira?"I said, "Messenger of Allah, what about the raiding bands of Tayy and their warriors?"He replied, "Allah will suffice you against Tayy and others besides them."I said, "Messenger of Allah, we are a people who hunt with these dogs and falcons. What is permitted to us from their catch?"He said, "Permitted to you is 'what you have trained of hunting animals, training them as Allah has taught you. So eat from what they catch for you, and mention the name of Allah upon it' [Maidah 5:4]. So whatever dog or falcon you have trained, then released while mentioning the name of Allah over it, eat from what it catches for you."I asked, "Even if it kills the prey?"He answered, "Even if it kills it, as long as it does not eat any of it. For it has only caught it for you."I asked, "What if our dogs mix with other dogs when we release them?"He replied, "Do not eat unless you know that it was your own dog that made the catch for you."I said, "Messenger of Allah, we are a people who shoot with the featherless arrow. What is permitted to us from it?"He said, "Do not eat what you strike with the featherless arrow except what you have slaughtered properly."
حدثنا عبد الله بن نمير حدثنا مجالد عن عامر
أتيت رسول الله ﷺ فعلمني الإسلام ونعت لي الصلاة وكيف أصلي كل صلاة لوقتها ثم قال لي كيف أنت يا ابن حاتم إذا ركبت من قصور اليمن لا تخاف إلا الله حتى تنزل قصور الحيرة قال قلت يا رسول الله فأين مقانب طيئ ورجالها قال يكفيك الله طيئا ومن سواها قال قلت يا رسول الله إنا قوم نتصيد بهذه الكلاب والبزاة فما يحل لنا منها قال يحل لكم {ما علمتم من الجوارح مكلبين تعلمونهن مما علمكم الله فكلوا مما أمسكن عليكم واذكروا اسم الله عليه} فما علمت من كلب أو باز ثم أرسلت وذكرت اسم الله عليه فكل مما أمسك عليك قلت وإن قتل قال وإن قتل ولم يأكل منه شيئا فإنما أمسكه عليك قلت أفرأيت إن خالط كلابنا كلاب أخرى حين نرسلها قال لا تأكل حتى تعلم أن كلبك هو الذي أمسك عليك قلت يا رسول الله إنا قوم نرمي بالمعراض فما يحل لنا قال لا تأكل ما أصبت بالمعراض إلا ما ذكيت
