He was our neighbor, or a lodger and resident at al-Nahrayn, that he asked the Prophet ﷺ, "I send my dog and find another dog with mine that has caught the game. I do not know which of them caught it."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then do not eat it, for you pronounced the name of Allah only over your own dog and not over the other."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة عن سعيد بن مسروق قال حدثنا الشعبي قال سمعت
وكان لنا جارا أو دخيلا وربيطا بالنهرين أنه سأل النبي ﷺ فقال أرسل كلبي فأجد مع كلبي كلبا قد أخذ لا أدري أيهما أخذ قال فلا تأكل فإنما سميت على كلبك ولم تسم على غيره
Its isnad is sahih. Bukhari narrated the hadith at the beginning of "Slaughtered Animals," 9/599, no. 5475, Fath, Muslim 3/153, no. 1929, in "Hunting," Abu Dawud 3/110, no. 2854, Tirmidhi 4/68, no. 1470, and Nasai 7/180, no. 4264, all of them in "Hunting."
