I ate garlic, then came to the prayer place of the Prophet ﷺ and found that he had already begun the prayer one rakah before me. When he finished, I stood to make up what I had missed, and he caught the smell of garlic.He said, "Whoever has eaten this plant should not come near our mosque until its smell is gone."When I finished my prayer, I came to him and said, "Messenger of Allah, I have an excuse. Give me your hand."By Allah, I found him gentle and accommodating. He extended his hand to me, and I drew it into my sleeve up to my chest, where he found it bound with a bandage.He said, "You indeed have an excuse."
حدثنا وكيع حدثنا سليمان بن المغيرة عن حميد بن هلال عن أبي بردة
أكلت ثوما ثم أتيت مصلى النبي ﷺ فوجدته قد سبقني بركعة فلما صلى قمت أقضي فوجد ريح الثوم فقال من أكل هذه البقلة فلا يقربن مسجدنا حتى يذهب ريحها قال فلما قضيت الصلاة أتيته فقلت يا رسول الله إن لي عذرا ناولني يدك قال فوجدته والله سهلا فناولني يده فأدخلتها في كمي إلى صدري فوجده معصوبا فقال إن لك عذرا
