A woman from Khathaam came and said, "Messenger of Allah, the obligation of Hajj prescribed by Allah has reached my father, but he is an old man who cannot remain seated on his mount."He replied, "Then perform Hajj on behalf of your father."
Its isnad is sahih. The compilers of the six books narrated it, as noted in Dhakhair al-Mawarith 6066, and we have already pointed to this at 1812 and 1813, where we mentioned that it appears the hadith is the hadith of Fadl. Tirmidhi narrated it, 2:112-113, through the route of Ibn Jurayj from Zuhri from Sulayman bin Yasar from Abdullah bin Abbas from Fadl. Tirmidhi then said, "The hadith of Fadl bin Abbas is a hasan sahih hadith."It has also been narrated from Ibn Abbas through Sinan bin Abdullah Juhani from his paternal aunt from the Prophet ﷺ, and it has also been narrated from Ibn Abbas directly from the Prophet ﷺ. So I asked Muhammad (meaning Bukhari) about these narrations, and he said, "The soundest thing in this matter is what Ibn Abbas narrated from Fadl bin Abbas from the Prophet ﷺ." Muhammad said, "It is possible that Ibn Abbas heard it from Fadl and others who heard it from the Prophet ﷺ, and then he narrated it and made it a mursal report, not mentioning the one from whom he had heard it."This will come again through the route of Ibn Jurayj at 1822.
