Mughira bin Shuba reported,

There are two practices I will never ask anyone about, for I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ do them himself.The first is the leader praying behind one of his subjects. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ pray one rakah of the dawn prayer behind Abdul-Rahman bin Awf.The second is wiping over leather socks. I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wipe over his leather socks.

عن المغيرة بن شعبة أنه قال

خصلتان لا أسأل عنهما أحدا من الناس رأيت رسول الله ﷺ فعلهما صلاة الإمام خلف الرجل من رعيته وقد رأيت رسول الله ﷺ صلى خلف عبد الرحمن بن عوف ركعة من صلاة الصبح ومسح الرجل على خفيه وقد رأيت رسول الله ﷺ يمسح على الخفين
