He accompanied a group of polytheists, and finding them off guard, he killed them and seized their wealth. He then brought it to the Prophet ﷺ, but the Messenger of Allah ﷺ refused to accept it.
حدثنا أبو معاوية حدثنا هشام بن عروة عن أبيه
أنه صحب قوما من المشركين فوجد منهم غفلة فقتلهم وأخذ أموالهم فجاء بها إلى النبي ﷺ فأبى رسول الله ﷺ أن يقبلها
Its isnad is sahih, its narrators are well-known trustworthy men, and the hadith was narrated by Bukhari as part of the long hadith on the treaty of Hudaybiya, 5/338, no. 2731-2732, Fath al-Bari, in the chapter on conditions, conditions in jihad. Abu Dawud also narrated it in the book of jihad, in the chapter on making peace with the enemy.
