While I was sitting in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, with our backs leaning against the qiblah wall of the mosque, we were a group of seven, four of our freedmen and three from our Arab kinsmen. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came out to us after the noon prayer and approached until he reached us. He asked, "What has brought you to sit here?"We replied, "Messenger of Allah, we are waiting for the prayer."He fell silent for a moment, then raised his head and said, "Do you know what your Lord is saying?"We answered, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "Your Lord
says, 'Whoever performs the prayer at its proper time, maintains it diligently, and does not neglect it out of contempt for its right, has a covenant with Me that I will admit him into Paradise. But whoever does not pray at its proper time, does not maintain it, and neglects it out of contempt for its right, has no covenant with Me. If I wish, I will punish him, and if I wish, I will forgive him.'"

Its isnad is hasan, on account of Isa bin Musayab, about whose memory the scholars spoke and disagreed. However, Abu Hatim said his standing was that of truthfulness, and Abu Zura said, "a shaykh." Hakim graded a narration of his sahih. Daraqutni was inconsistent regarding him, declaring him daif at one point, and at another saying, "his hadith is sound." Ibn Adi said the same, while Abu Dawud and Nasai declared him daif. See al-Tajil.The hadith was narrated in similar wording by Darimi (1/303, no. 1226) and by Tabarani in al-Kabir (9/142, no. 311). Haythami declared it daif (1/302) on account of Isa bin Musayab, though he cited supporting evidences alongside it.
