It was in this mosque, meaning the mosque of Kufa, that this verse was revealed concerning me. We set out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and entered the state of ihram for umrah. Then lice infested my head, my beard, my eyebrows, and my moustache. News of this reached the Prophet ﷺ, so he sent for me, and when he saw me he said, "Affliction has struck you and we did not realize. Call the barber."When the barber came, the Prophet ﷺ ordered him to shave my head. Then he asked, "Can you afford a sacrificial animal?"I replied, "No."He said, "Then fast three days, or feed six poor people, giving each of them half a saa of dates."
