He was riding behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and continued reciting the talbiyah until he cast the pebbles at the Jamrah on the Day of Sacrifice.
حدثنا هاشم بن القاسم حدثنا شعبة عن عامر الأحول وجابر الجعفي وابن عطاء عن عطاء عن ابن عباس
أنه كان رديف رسول الله ﷺ فلبى حتى رمى الجمرة يوم النحر
Its isnad is sahih, except for the narration of Jabir Jafi. Ibn Ata is Yaqub bin Ata bin Abu Rabah. Ibn Hibban mentioned him among the trustworthy narrators, while Ahmad, Ibn Main, and others declared him daif. Ibn Hibban said, "He may sometimes err. His hadith should be considered apart from the narration of Zama from him, for if one examines his hadith where the mode of transmission is made clear, and only a trustworthy narrator has related from him, one finds nothing but soundness." This is the fair assessment. Bukhari gave his biography in al-Kabir 4/2/398 and mentioned no criticism of him, nor did he list him among the daif narrators. This hadith is a repetition of the one before it.
