I was riding in a caravan with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he passed by a dead lamb that had been thrown aside. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you see how worthless this lamb was to its owners?"They replied, "Messenger of Allah, it is because of its worthlessness that they discarded it."He said, "By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, this world is more worthless to Allah than this lamb is to its owners."
Its isnad is hasan, because of Mujalid bin Saeed Al-Hamdani Al-Kufi, about whom they spoke critically as mentioned before. Muslim narrated from him. The hadith was narrated by Tirmidhi, who graded it hasan, 4/560, no. 2321, in the chapter on Zuhd, on the insignificance of this world, and by Ibn Majah, 2/1377, no. 4111, in the chapter on Zuhd, on renunciation of this world.
