An Arabi came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wearing a long outer garment stained with traces of saffron and said, "Messenger of Allah, I have entered the state of ihram in what you see, and the people are mocking me."The Prophet ﷺ lowered his head for a moment, then called the man over and said, "Take off this garment, wash off this saffron, and do for your umrah what you would do for your hajj."
حدثنا هشيم حدثنا منصور وعبد الملك عن عطاء
جاء أعرابي إلى رسول الله ﷺ وعليه جبة وعليه ردع من زعفران فقال يا رسول الله إني أحرمت فيما ترى والناس يسخرون مني وأطرق هنيهة قال ثم دعاه فقال اخلع عنك هذه الجبة واغسل عنك هذا الزعفران واصنع في عمرتك كما تصنع في حجك

Its isnad is sahih. The hadith with similar wording is found in Bukhari 3/614, no. 1789 (Fath), in the chapter "Umrah, what is done in Umrah is what is done in Hajj," and in Muslim 2/837, no. 1180m, and Tahawi in Maani al-Athar 2/127, and Bayhaqi 5/56.
