Malik bin Sasaa reported,

The Prophet of Allah ﷺ told them about the night he was taken on the night journey. He said:"While I was lying in the Hatim," and Qatada sometimes said, "in the Hijr, someone came to me." He kept describing him to his companion as the middle of the three. He said, "He came to me and split..." I heard Qatada saying, "He split from here to here."Qatada said, "I asked Jarud, who was beside me, 'What does he mean?' He replied, 'From the pit of his throat to his pubic area.'" I also heard him say, "From the top of his chest to his pubic area."He said, "He extracted my heart, then I was brought a basin of gold filled with faith and wisdom. My heart was washed, then filled, then returned to its place. Then I was brought a beast smaller than a mule and larger than a donkey, white in color."Jarud said, "Is that the Buraq, Abu Hamza?"He said, "Yes. Each of its strides reached as far as its eye could see. I was mounted upon it, and Jibreel عليه السلام set off with me until he brought me to the lowest heaven. He requested entry, and it was asked, 'Who is this?'He answered, 'Jibreel.'It was asked, 'Who is with you?'He said, 'Muhammad.'It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?'He said, 'Yes.'It was said, 'Welcome to him, what an excellent arrival.'The gate was opened, and when I went through, I found Adam عليه السلام there. Jibreel said, 'This is your father Adam, so greet him.' I greeted him, and he returned the greeting and said, 'Welcome, righteous son and righteous prophet.'Then he ascended until he reached the second heaven. He requested entry, and it was asked, 'Who is this?'He said, 'Jibreel.'It was asked, 'Who is with you?'He said, 'Muhammad.'It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?'He said, 'Yes.'It was said, 'Welcome to him, what an excellent arrival.'The gate was opened, and when I went through, I found Yahya and Isa, who are maternal cousins. Jibreel said, 'These are Yahya and Isa, so greet them.' I greeted them, and they returned the greeting and said, 'Welcome, righteous brother and righteous prophet.'Then he ascended until he reached the third heaven. He requested entry, and it was asked, 'Who is this?'He said, 'Jibreel.'It was asked, 'Who is with you?'He said, 'Muhammad.''Has he been sent for?'He said, 'Yes.'It was said, 'Welcome to him, what an excellent arrival.'The gate was opened, and when I went through, there was Yusuf عليه السلام. Jibreel said, 'This is Yusuf, so greet him.' I greeted him, and he returned the greeting and said, 'Welcome, righteous brother and righteous prophet.'Then he ascended until he reached the fourth heaven. He requested entry, and it was asked, 'Who is this?'He said, 'Jibreel.'It was asked, 'Who is with you?'He said, 'Muhammad.'It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?'He said, 'Yes.'It was said, 'Welcome to him, what an excellent arrival.'The gate was opened, and when I went through, there was Idris عليه السلام. Jibreel said, 'This is Idris, so greet him.' I greeted him, and he returned the greeting and said, 'Welcome, righteous brother and righteous prophet.'Then he ascended until he reached the fifth heaven. He requested entry, and it was asked, 'Who is this?'He said, 'Jibreel.'It was asked, 'Who is with you?'He said, 'Muhammad.'It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?'He said, 'Yes.'It was said, 'Welcome to him, what an excellent arrival.'The gate was opened, and when I went through, there was Harun عليه السلام. Jibreel said, 'This is Harun, so greet him.' I greeted him, and he returned the greeting and said, 'Welcome, righteous brother and righteous prophet.'Then he ascended until he reached the sixth heaven. He requested entry, and it was asked, 'Who is this?'He said, 'Jibreel.'It was asked, 'Who is with you?'He said, 'Muhammad.'It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?'He said, 'Yes.'It was said, 'Welcome to him, what an excellent arrival.'The gate was opened, and when I went through, I found Musa عليه السلام. Jibreel said, 'This is Musa, so greet him.' I greeted him, and he returned the greeting and said, 'Welcome, righteous brother and righteous prophet.'When I passed by him, he wept. He was asked, 'What makes you weep?'He replied, 'I weep because a young man was sent after me, yet more of his nation will enter Paradise than of mine.'Then he ascended until he reached the seventh heaven. He requested entry, and it was asked, 'Who is this?'He said, 'Jibreel.'It was asked, 'Who is with you?'He said, 'Muhammad.'It was asked, 'Has he been sent for?'He said, 'Yes.'It was said, 'Welcome to him, what an excellent arrival.'The gate was opened, and when I went through, there was Ibrahim عليه السلام. Jibreel said, 'This is Ibrahim, so greet him.' I greeted him, and he returned the greeting and said, 'Welcome, righteous son and righteous prophet.'Then the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary was raised before me. Its fruits were like the large jars of Hajar, and its leaves were like the ears of elephants. Jibreel said, 'This is the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary.'I saw four rivers there, two hidden and two visible. I asked, 'What are these, Jibreel?'He answered, 'As for the two hidden ones, they are two rivers in Paradise. As for the two visible ones, they are the Nile and the Euphrates.'Then the Frequented House was raised up before me."Qatada said, "Hasan narrated to us from Abu Hurairah that the Prophet ﷺ said that he saw the Frequented House, which seventy thousand angels enter every day and never return to it."Then he returned to the narration of Anas. He said, "Then I was brought a vessel of wine, a vessel of milk, and a vessel of honey. I took the milk, and Jibreel said, 'This is the natural way (fitrah) which you and your nation are upon.'Then prayers were prescribed upon me, fifty prayers each day. I returned and passed by Musa عليه السلام, who asked, 'What were you commanded to do?'I said, 'I was commanded with fifty prayers every day.'He said, 'Your nation cannot manage fifty prayers. I have known people before you, and I dealt with the Children of Israil with the utmost effort. So return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten the burden for your nation.'I returned, and ten were taken off. I came back to Musa, and he asked, 'What were you commanded to do?'I said, 'Forty prayers every day.'He said, 'Your nation cannot manage forty prayers every day. I have known people before you, and I dealt with the Children of Israil with the utmost effort. So return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten the burden for your nation.'I returned, and another ten were taken off. I came back to Musa, and he asked me, 'What were you commanded to do?'I said, 'I was commanded with thirty prayers every day.'He said, 'Your nation cannot manage thirty prayers every day. I have known people before you, and I dealt with the Children of Israil with the utmost effort. So return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten the burden for your nation.'I returned, and another ten were taken off. I came back to Musa, and he asked me, 'What were you commanded to do?'I said, 'Twenty prayers every day.'He said, 'Your nation cannot manage twenty prayers every day. I have known people before you, and I dealt with the Children of Israil with the utmost effort. So return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten the burden for your nation.'I returned, and I was commanded with ten prayers every day. I came back to Musa, and he asked, 'What were you commanded to do?'I said, 'Ten prayers every day.'He said, 'Your nation cannot manage ten prayers every day. I have known people before you, and I dealt with the Children of Israil with the utmost effort. So return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten the burden for your nation.'I returned, and I was commanded with five prayers every day. I came back to Musa, and he asked, 'What were you commanded to do?'I said, 'I was commanded with five prayers every day.'He said, 'Your nation cannot manage five prayers every day. I have known people before you, and I dealt with the Children of Israil with the utmost effort. So return to your Lord and ask Him to lighten the burden for your nation.'I said, 'I have asked my Lord until I felt ashamed before Him, but I am content and I submit.'When I had moved on, a caller called out, 'I have ordained My obligation and lightened the burden upon My servants.'"
