The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Amr, put on your weapons and your clothes, then come to me."I did so, and when I came to him he was performing ablution. He looked me up and down, then said, "Amr, I want to send you on an expedition. Allah will keep you safe and grant you spoils, and I wish for you a goodly portion of wealth."I said, "Messenger of Allah, I did not embrace Islam out of desire for wealth. I embraced Islam out of desire for jihad and to be in your company."He said, "Amr, how excellent is wholesome wealth for a righteous man."The narrator said, Thus it appears in the manuscript, "niamma" with a fatha on the nun and a kasra on the ayn. Abu Ubayd said it is with a kasra on both the nun and the ayn.
حدثنا وكيع حدثنا موسى بن علي بن رباح ذاك اللخمي عن أبيه قال سمعت
قال لي رسول الله ﷺ يا عمرو اشدد عليك سلاحك وثيابك وأتني ففعلت فجئته وهو يتوضأ فصعد في البصر وصوبه وقال يا عمرو إني أريد أن أبعثك وجها فيسلمك الله ويغنمك وأرغب لك من المال رغبة صالحة قال قلت يا رسول الله إني لم أسلم رغبة في المال إنما أسلمت رغبة في الجهاد والكينونة معك قال يا عمرو نعما بالمال الصالح للرجل الصالح قال كذا في النسخة نعما بنصب النون وكسر العين قال أبو عبيد بكسر النون والعين
