A man among them had been killed at Awtas, so the Prophet ﷺ said to him, "Abu Amir, why did you not intervene to change what was happening?"The man recited this verse, "You who believe, take care of your own souls. The one who strays cannot harm you if you are rightly guided" [Maidah 5:105].The Messenger of Allah ﷺ became angry and said, "Where have you taken this? It only means, 'You who believe, the one who strays from among the disbelievers cannot harm you if you are rightly guided.'"
