The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever among you we appoint to a task and then conceals from us even a needle, that is treachery for which he will answer on the Day of Resurrection."A tall, dark-skinned man from the Ansar stood up and said, "I have no need of your appointment."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "Why?"He replied, "I just heard you say what you said."The Prophet ﷺ then said, "I say it now again. Whoever among you we appoint to a task, let him bring back what he has taken, whether little or much. Whatever he is given, he may take, and whatever he is forbidden, he must refrain from."
حدثنا محمد بن جعفر قال حدثنا شعبة عن إسماعيل قال سمعت قيسا يحدث
عن النبي ﷺ أنه قال من استعملناه منكم على عمل فكتمنا مخيطا فهو غل يأتي به يوم القيامة فقام رجل من القوم آدم طوال من الأنصار فقال لا حاجة لي في عملك فقال له رسول الله ﷺ لم قال إني سمعتك آنفا تقول قال فأنا أقول الآن من استعملناه منكم على عمل فليأت بقليله وكثيره فإن أتي بشيء أخذه وإن نهي عنه انتهى
