The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Those who are killed fall into three kinds.A believing man who struggled with his life and his wealth in the way of Allah, so that when he met the enemy he fought them until he was killed. That one is the tested martyr, in the tent of Allah beneath His throne, and the prophets surpass him only by the rank of prophethood.And a believing man who had burdened himself with sins and wrongdoings, then struggled with his life and his wealth in the way of Allah, so that when he met the enemy he fought until he was killed. His sins and wrongdoings are scrubbed away and erased, for the sword wipes out wrongdoings, and he is admitted through whichever of the gates of Paradise he wishes, for Paradise has eight gates, while Hell has seven gates, one below the other.And a hypocritical man who struggled with his life and his wealth, so that when he met the enemy he fought in the way of Allah until he was killed. That one is in the Fire, for the sword does not wipe out hypocrisy."
حدثنا يعمر بن بشر حدثنا عبد الله أخبرنا صفوان بن عمرو أن أبا المثنى الأملوكي حدثه أنه سمع عتبة بن عبد السلمي وكان من أصحاب النبي ﷺ يحدث عن رسول الله ﷺ قال القتل ثلاثة فذكر معناه
