If only you had seen me, Qutham, and Ubaydullah, the two sons of Abbas, when we were boys playing together. The Prophet ﷺ passed by on a riding animal and said, "Lift this one up to me." So he placed me in front of him. Then he said regarding Qutham, "Lift this one up to me," and he placed him behind him. Now Ubaydullah was dearer to Abbas than Qutham, yet Abbas felt no embarrassment before his nephew that he carried Qutham and left Ubaydullah behind. Then he wiped my head three times, and each time he wiped it he said, "O Allah, be a successor to Jafar in his offspring."I said to Abdullah, "What became of Qutham?"He replied, "He was martyred."I said, "Allah and His Messenger know best what is good."He said, "Indeed."
