The scribe of Uqba bin Amir reported that he said to Uqba, "We have neighbors who drink wine, and I am going to call the police on them so they may arrest them."Uqba replied, "Do not do that. Instead, admonish them and warn them."So he did, but they did not stop. Then Dukhayn came to him and said, "I have forbidden them, but they have not stopped, so I am going to call the police on them."Uqba said, "Woe to you, do not do that, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Whoever conceals the faults of a believer, it is as if he has brought back to life a girl buried alive from her grave.'"

كاتب عقبة بن عامر قال قلت لعقبة إن لنا جيرانا يشربون الخمر وأنا داع لهم الشرط فيأخذوهم فقال لا تفعل ولكن عظهم وتهددهم قال ففعل فلم ينتهوا قال فجاءه دخين فقال إني نهيتهم فلم ينتهوا وأنا داع لهم الشرط فقال عقبة ويحك لا تفعل فإني سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول من ستر عورة مؤمن فكأنما استحيا موءودة من قبرها
