We were with the Prophet ﷺ at Dhul-Hulayfah in the region of Tihamah, and we acquired sheep and camels. The people hurried and set the cooking pots boiling with the meat. The Prophet ﷺ came and ordered that the pots be overturned, then he said, "Ten sheep are equivalent to one camel."Then a camel bolted away, and the people had only a few horses with them. A man shot it with an arrow and brought it down. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Some of these animals have wild streaks like wild beasts, so whatever escapes you among them, deal with it in this manner."Rafi bin Khadij said, "We hope, but we also fear that we may meet the enemy tomorrow, and we have no knives. Can we slaughter with sharpened reeds?"He replied, "Be quick, or let the blood flow. Whatever causes the blood to flow and over which the name of Allah has been mentioned, you may eat, provided it is not done with a tooth or a claw. I will tell you why. As for the tooth, it is a bone, and as for the claw, it is the knife of the Abyssinians."
