Its chain of transmission is sahih. Jafar bin Amr bin Umaya Damri is a well-known reliable narrator. He was among the trustworthy Successors, and his hadith appears in the Sahihayn. Bukhari related it in 1/305, no. 202 (Fath), in the book of wudu, on wiping over leather socks, and Muslim related something similar in 1/228, nos. 272-273, and likewise Tirmidhi in 1/165, no. 98, Nasai in 1/18, no. 118, and Ibn Majah in 1/181, no. 543.
