We were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ on a military expedition, and one night we came to an elevated piece of ground where we spent the night. A severe cold struck us, so much so that I saw men digging holes in the ground to crawl into, then covering themselves with their shields.When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw this happening to the people, he called out, "Who will keep watch for us tonight, and I will make a supplication for him that will bring him special merit?"A man from the Ansar said, "I will, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Come closer."So he came closer, and the Prophet asked, "Who are you?"The Ansari man told him his name. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then began to supplicate for him at length.Abu Rayhana said, When I heard the supplication the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made for him, I said, "Here is another man."He said, "Come closer."So I came closer, and he asked, "Who are you?"I said, "I am Abu Rayhana."He then made a supplication for me that was less than what he had supplicated for the Ansari. Then he said, "The Fire is forbidden to an eye that has shed tears or wept out of fear of Allah, and the Fire is forbidden to an eye that has stayed awake keeping watch in the path of Allah." Or he said, "The Fire is forbidden to a third kind of eye," which Muhammad bin Sumayr did not hear. Someone other than Zayd said, meaning Abu Ali al-Janbi.
حدثنا زيد بن الحباب قال حدثني عبد الرحمن بن شريح قال سمعت محمد بن سمير الرعيني يقول سمعت أبا عامر التجيبي قال أبي وقال غيره الجنبي يعني غير زيد أبو علي الجنبي يقول سمعت
كنا مع رسول الله ﷺ في غزوة فأتينا ذات ليلة إلى شرف فبتنا عليه فأصابنا برد شديد حتى رأيت من يحفر في الأرض حفرة يدخل فيها يلقي عليه الحجفة يعني الترس فلما رأى ذلك رسول الله ﷺ من الناس نادى من يحرسنا في هذه الليلة وأدعو له بدعاء يكون فيه فضل فقال رجل من الأنصار أنا يا رسول الله فقال ادنه فدنا فقال من أنت فتسمى له الأنصاري ففتح رسول الله ﷺ بالدعاء فأكثر منه قال أبو ريحانة فلما سمعت ما دعا به رسول الله ﷺ فقلت أنا رجل آخر فقال ادنه فدنوت فقال من أنت قال فقلت أنا أبو ريحانة فدعا بدعاء هو دون ما دعا للأنصاري ثم قال حرمت النار على عين دمعت أو بكت من خشية الله وحرمت النار على عين سهرت في سبيل الله أو قال حرمت النار على عين أخرى ثالثة لم يسمعها محمد بن سمير وقال غيره يعني غير زيد أبو علي الجنبي
