He went to the mosque of Damascus, setting out early in the day, and there he met Shaddad bin Aws, with Sanabihi accompanying him.I asked, "Ayn Tureed, may Allah have mercy on you both?"They replied, "We are heading over there to visit a brother of ours who is ill."So I went along with them until they entered upon that man. They asked him, "How are you this morning?"He said, "I am in a state of blessing."Shaddad said to him, "Receive glad tidings of the expiation of your bad deeds and the removal of your sins, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say that Allah says, 'When I afflict a believing servant from among My servants and he praises Me for the trial I have placed upon him, he rises from that bed of his as free from sins as the day his mother bore him.' And the Lord
says, 'I have restrained My servant and tested him. Continue to record for him the rewards you used to record for him while he was in good health.'"
Its chain of transmission is hasan. Ismail bin Ayyash transmits from the Syrians, and Rashid bin Dawud Sanani, from Sanaa of Damascus, is a Syrian and is trustworthy like him. Ibn Main and Abu Zura graded him trustworthy, and Haythami likewise indicated this in 2/303. The hadith has already appeared at 11126.
