Abu Masud Uqba bin Amr reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to us, "The one who leads the people in prayer should be the one most versed in reciting the Book of Allah Almighty and the one who learned to recite earliest. If they are equal in recitation, then the one who emigrated earliest should lead them. If they are equal in emigration, then the eldest among them should lead. A man should not lead the prayer in another man's home or within his sphere of authority, nor should he sit in the place of honor in his house, except with his permission."
