An Arabi came to the Prophet ﷺ with a lost item he had found. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Announce it for a year, then take note of its container and its tie. If someone comes and describes it to you accurately, give it to him. Otherwise, use it yourself."The man asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about a stray sheep?"He replied, "It is for you, or for your brother, or for the wolf."The man asked, "Messenger of Allah, what about a stray camel?"The face of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ changed, and he said, "What business do you have with it? It has its hooves and its water supply. It can reach water and feed on trees until its owner finds it."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن عن سفيان عن ربيعة بن أبي عبد الرحمن قال حدثني يزيد مولى المنبعث
جاء أعرابي إلى النبي ﷺ بلقطة فقال عرفها سنة ثم اعرف عفاصها ووكاءها فإن جاء أحد يخبرك بها وإلا فاستنفقها قال يا رسول الله فضالة الغنم قال لك أو لأخيك أو للذئب قال يا رسول الله ضالة الإبل قال فتغير وجه رسول الله ﷺ ثم قال ما لك ولها معها حذاؤها وسقاؤها ترد الماء وتأكل الشجر
