A man reported,

They were present with Ghudayf bin Harith al-Thumali when his death throes grew severe. He asked, "Is there anyone among you who can recite Ya-Sin?"Salih bin Shurayh al-Sakuni recited it, and when he reached forty verses of it, Ghudayf passed away.The elders used to say that when it is recited beside a dying person, his passing is eased by it.Safwan said that Isa bin al-Mutamir recited it beside Ibn Mabad.

أنهم حضروا غضيف بن الحارث الثمالي حين اشتد سوقه فقال هل منكم أحد يقرأ يس قال فقرأها صالح بن شريح السكوني فلما بلغ أربعين منها قبض قال فكان المشيخة يقولون إذا قرئت عند الميت خفف عنه بها قال صفوان وقرأها عيسى بن المعتمر عند ابن معبد
