People of Madinah, where are your scholars? I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "This is the day of Ashura. Its fast has not been made obligatory upon us, so whoever among you wishes to fast may do so, and I am fasting." So the people fasted.
حدثنا عبد الرزاق حدثنا معمر عن الزهري قال حدثني حميد بن عبد الرحمن بن عوف أنه سمع
يا أهل المدينة أين علماؤكم سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول هذا يوم عاشوراء ولم يفرض علينا صيامه فمن شاء منكم أن يصوم فليصم فإني صائم فصام الناس
