Abdullah bin Abbas reported,

Umar bin Khattab set out heading for Sham, and the narrator mentioned the hadith. He said that Abdul-Rahman bin Awf had been absent, but then he arrived and said, "I have some knowledge about this. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'When you hear of it in a land, do not enter it, and when it breaks out in a land where you are, do not leave fleeing from it.'"

حدثنا عبد الرزاق أنبأنا معمر عن الزهري عن عبد الحميد بن عبد الرحمن بن زيد بن الخطاب عن عبد الله بن عبد الله بن الحارث بن نوفل

عن عبد الله بن عباس قال

خرج عمر بن الخطاب يريد الشام فذكر الحديث قال وكان عبد الرحمن بن عوف غائبا فجاء فقال إن عندي من هذا علما سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إذا سمعتم به في أرض فلا تقدموا عليه وإذا وقع بأرض وأنتم بها فلا تخرجوا فرارا منه
